Publisher Peter Crownfield said that "This donation was not meant as a show of support for the decision to send troops to Bosnia, but to support the people serving there. It is important to remember that they are individual men and women -- brothers and sisters, daughters and sons, fathers and mothers. They have been sent on a difficult and dangerous assignment, and we hope our donation of entertaining and thought-provoking reading material will help make their stay a little less difficult, a little more human."
The copies were delivered to the Defense Logistics Agency and flown by Air Force transport to Tusla, Bosnia, for distribution. Included in the shipment are a number of copies of the magazine's 1995 Memorial Day issue. Most of the stories and poems in that issue were written by veterans and military personnel and brings out the effects war has on people. According to Crownfield, one veteran described this issue as "very powerful -- pro-soldier but antiwar."

One Air Force officer wrote:
"This program was started during the Gulf War in 1991 and was very successful. I would really have felt alone if it hadn't been for 'Any Service Member' mail -- it helps a lot!"
